Home using WEP gets Hacked
|
| |
WEP has been known to be insecure since 2001, with the publishing of the FMS paper discussing its flaws. Unfortunately most people either are'nt still aware or probably just don't care and continue to use WEP in their homes and small offices. In this video a journalist travels with a security expert to a residential area and parks their vehicle outside a home running WEP and cracks the WEP key. Then he proceeds to secretly monitor the home user's activity online - while he books his travel tickets, logs onto airline sites etc. Then armed with all this information they approach the home user (who is of course miserably shocked!!) and educate him about the dangers of using an unprotected wireless connection and recommends the use of stronger protection such as WPA/WPA2.
