Description: IPv6 packet consists of two main parts header and the payload. This video talks more about the header and header fields in detail. IPv6 header occupies fixed size of 40Bytes. From these 40 bytes, 32 bytes are given to source and destination IP addresses, so compared to IPv4 the header is very clean and small. Another advantage with IPv6 header is its fixed size. Now routers can take the decisions with fixed offsets, so the routing speed will substantially increase. Let’s have a look at some of the important header fields. <p> <p>IPv6 header:</p> <table border="1"> <tbody><tr> <th>00</th><th>01</th><th>02</th><th>03</th><th>04</th><th>05</th><th>06</th><th>07</th> <th>08</th><th>09</th><th>10</th><th>11</th><th>12</th><th>13</th><th>14</th><th>15</th> <th>16</th><th>17</th><th>18</th><th>19</th><th>20</th><th>21</th><th>22</th><th>23</th> <th>24</th><th>25</th><th>26</th><th>27</th><th>28</th><th>29</th><th>30</th><th>31</th></tr> <tr> <td style="text-align: center; color: rgb(0, 0, 153);" class="pkthdr" colspan="4">Version</td> <td style="text-align: center; color: rgb(0, 0, 153);" class="pkthdr" colspan="8">Traffic Class</td> <td style="text-align: center; color: rgb(0, 0, 153);" class="pkthdr" colspan="20">Flow Label</td></tr> <tr> <td style="text-align: center; color: rgb(0, 0, 153);" class="pkthdr" colspan="16">Payload Length</td> <td style="text-align: center; color: rgb(0, 0, 153);" class="pkthdr" colspan="8">Next Header</td> <td style="text-align: center; color: rgb(0, 0, 153);" class="pkthdr" colspan="8">Hop Limit</td></tr> <tr align="center"> <td class="pkthdr" colspan="32"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">Source address</span> <br></td></tr> <tr align="center"> <td class="pkthdr" colspan="32"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">Destination address</span> <br></td></tr> <tr align="center"> <td class="pktvarlen" colspan="32"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">Data </span><br></td></tr></tbody></table> </p> <br>
