Description: This CBC documentary explores the world of cyber warfare. It talks about how the Internet has evolved to become a heaven for crooks and criminals who are now stealing people's money and identity online using trojans, worms and viruses. Once of the main characters is Mafia Boy, a 15 year old high school student who launched a Distributed Denial of Service Attack on Yahoo!, Ebay, CNN and Dell. He was finally caught after bragging too much about it on online forums. Also, the author traces the evolution of worms and viruses and how they have evolved from just pranks to organized crime. Donnie, another hacker explores the Russian hacker space to see if he could find the author of theBlaster worm. Incidentally Microsoft was offering a $250,000 bounty on any information which would lead to the arrest of the author of the Blaster worm. Of course, noone ever won it :)
My view of the documentary is that its just OK. In a lot of places the narattor uses viruses and worms interchangably, which honestly as a security geek i find rather stupid. Also, some of the incidents were over exaggerated and it almost seems the video was made to scare normal people of hackers. Even though the narattor clarifies the difference between a white, black and grey hat, the general inclination was towards labeling hackers as bad people. My 2 cents - its definitely worth a watch.
