Description: Based here in lovely Brisbane, Silas loves BMXs, boot2roots and hacking things. On a more professional note, Silas has held a number of operational and strategic security roles with companies ranging from small business to fortune 500 companies. Previous employers include Symantec, IBM, and the Australian Department of Defence (but please don’t hold that against him), and he currently serves as Chief Information Security Officer at Virgin Australia. Silas has certs but will only admit to the Offensive Security ones.
The presentation (My 4G wifi modem sucks) essentially covers the techniques and tools I used to find and exploit a number of vulnerabilities on the Telstra ZTE MF91 4G wifi modem. Exploits include authentication bypass, recovery of credentials, modification of core functionality, unexpected (and insecure) device behaviour and unauthenticated factory reset.
