Description: When we take a step back and look at the world of Information/Computer/Network/Cyber Security with a broader lens, we find a ton of examples where we're trying to understand how to allocate scant resources. It might be trying to determine which patches to roll-out first, how to get a user to pay attention to security training, how to navigate the purchase of a product or service. Underlying all of this is Economics. There's a growing interest in applying an economics lens to infosec issues. This session will be an introduction to the topic, covering a brief intro to Economics in general, then a review of key areas of interest for security and economics.
By the end of the session, you should be able to understand how common security issues can be framed as or explained by economics. Having this knowledge might help you steer your security activities differently, towards more effective and efficient outcomes.
