Nice awareness video!
A while back, when I had just discovered the Caffe Latte attack, i was part of a small awareness video as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eU8y_7W50Q
The issue as Netinfinity pointed to in another thread is that the general public never learns :)
lol i love watching noobs at free wifi hotspots that dont understand anything about computer security and just have this idea they are always safe.
Encrypted wifi doesn't always mean safe either folks. Just a thought. It has weaknesses too(almost always a default SSID or an SSID that is used company wide...precompute tables for all hotspots run by companyX). Still, hopefully an eye-opener for someone. I still don't know why no-one sells a VPN-to-home product for use at wifi hotspots...business venture anyone?
@andrew agreed. You have to understand that the story editors only used certain phrases. The topic was NOT how encryption would save you from certain attacks. For instance, the cafe could have an encrypted AP, but they GIVE you the password. Most of the business owners don't bother to purchase decent APs or even try and configure them properly.
My comments we chopped up as well. I was focusing on web app vulnerabilities. More specifically, improper session management. Where something like Firesheep would shine. Which is how I compromised the conferences Twitter account. With permission of course ;-)
I was trying to highlight how most of us take for granted and assume that the application providers are maintaining a reasonable assurance level, with respect to protecting our data and credentials.
Which doesn't seem to be the case. :-)
Thanks for the comments!
BTW Vivek, nice video! I forgot the mention that. CafeLatte anyone? hehe
