Description: Welcome to Part 5 of the WLAN Security Megaprimer! Please start this series by watching Part 1 http://www.securitytube.net/video/1756, if you have not done so already.
In this video, we will dive deep into WLAN Header fields - Frame Control, Duration/ID, BSSID, SA, TA, DA, Sequence Control, QoS control, Frame Body, FCS etc. We will also look at an in-depth introduction into the bit fields in Frame Control which include - type, subtype, to ds, from ds, more fragments, retry, power management, more data, protected frame etc.
Though I will be using Wireshark to help you understand these header fields, I do not deny that this video is a bit theoretical and long :) but I would really encourage you to go through this as it will give you a firm grounding in WLAN protocol basics. This is a must for future videos when we will discuss various attacks.
As always, your comments keep me going, so please keep them coming :)

another great tutorial :)
tnx Vivek-Ramachandran
I know these videos take a lot of work and this is why your videos stand out above all the others and the problems I have with them (type too small to read, no audio even though TTS is available almost everywhere, terrible music, video too fast to follow along, etc).
Thanks for being the sort of person that is willing to help others. I will (and already have) recommend these to anyone taking the CWNA exam.
As always making the complex legible and enjoyable. Thank you so much for your time Vivek. You bring this all to life.
Vivek - the KING of the video tutorial - accept no substitutes!
Phew indeed :) I will definitely use this presentation to practice with wireshark to imprint all this new data into my memory:)
Thanks for the great explanation!
P.s.: Are you familiar with Armitage for Metasploit?
I have seen a presentation and it has cool features like tabs, targets graph view (like Maltego), It also enables working with a team of specialists or to divide tasks.
Would this be a good way to start using the framework? Next to your fundamentals?
Really like the way you are using wireshark to show the details. It makes it much easier to understand and remember the material.
totally enjoying these videos.
Honestly you have summarized the half of 3 credits course in university within 36 minutes .....thank you vivek ...PLEASE keep going Prof.
@behrouz,WCNA, ahmadqedemat, Fitzroy, Blackmarketeer, Thanks Guys! :) Just posted the next video in the series
@zendar I would recommend using Armitage in the end and play with msfconsole more as that is the official supported utility.
Yes it is really important to understand protocol basics before start thinking to hack it.
Very good tutorial from scratch.
Also very good images and voice recording quality.
Thanks
I think you have an error in your slide that shows the data field as being up to 23124 bytes. I think the last digit (4) was suppose to be the 4 byte length indicator for the last field.
@TchouTchou Thanks!
@DCash Yes, thanks for correcting the typo, I missed the space in between the two :)
You're a real trooper, keep it up!
Awsome Vivek, Excellent videos
i daily use to visit securitytube.net from 3 month and your videos making me unique from others student in my college :D that i am only 18 year old and i have great knowledge about security because of you :) Thanks :)
Fantastic video as always. You rock Vivek!! =D
your tutorials are simply great.
Nothing more to say.
Over the last few days I've been eating up your videos like carrots and now I can see myself really falling down the rabbit hole. There won't be enough hours in the day to study packets :) keep up the good work. I am spreading the word.
Vivek, I must say you do a very good job at presenting difficult/bland material. Every lunch hour I watch whatever vids I can find, and this wireless primer has taken most of my lunches lately! I am excited every time I get to the home page and you have another one made. GREAT JOB please don't stop..
Thank you very much Vivek for these tutorials. I am a beginner in the computer security field and am fully intending to persue it as a career. Your tutorials, especially your megaprimers are extremely informative and are also understandable by novices such as myself. Please keep up the great work!
Thank you! This was amazing to learn
Vivek, you deserve all praises given by the members. This is the best series of wireless security tutorial I have ever seen.

Another excellent video! Very thorough and informative you explain very well thank you very much again!!
1,2,3,4,5 presentation, all excelents, thank you for this contribution.
So you mean to say,
The AP = Packets exiting the DS (Sent)
Client = Packets entering the DS (Received)
Bottom Line - DS in relative terms is the AP itself.

Fantastic job, Vivek! I actually really wanted a good presentation of theory, and a deeper explanation of packets. Thanks so much, and I just want you to know that you're helping me to fulfill my dream since i was a kid

Hi Vivek! Thanks for sharing these great videos. But before I go deeper and watch all the videos down to 37 I am wondering if all of these will be changed by IPv6 will you release updated or new ones?

Simply Excellent..!! :)
Great video! cant that you enough for taking the time to go through each step.

I have been learning for 2 years now, various sources... Learned a lot, but a ton left to learn. Been using wireshark for a while now, but only now I fully understand the output. You might be afraid that the video's are too long, but trust me, they are great! You are a man who shares his knowledge... And enjoys it! I got nothing but respect for you! Looking forward to hearing the barking dog :)
I really enjoyed this, a lot of information packed into one lesson. Thanks as always.
Great job. Really a nice presentation. Learned a lot from this video.
Hi Vivek!
I love the way you're teaching things. This is so clear and you start from the ground. That's great!!
Quality of audio/video is perfect too.
I just have a small problem. My Wireshark doesn't display the 802.11 CRC. I noticed this for ethernet too. I asked why on a newsgroup and someone told me it's because this field is handled by hardware and never get through software. Can you confirm that? (I use Archlinux, and I'm running it natively, not on VM)
Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.
I downloaded the MegaPrimer yesterday, and I have to say I really like your videos. you explain everything simply and straight to the point, this is probably the best place to learn about security in the Internet!
keep it up and thanks :)
Thank you for your work! I don't have to go look for information anymore, this is everything I have been looking for! I will for sure watch every single one of your uploads!!
Another great video thanks a lot!!! Any chance u could do a video on using Tshark?

Is it possible to get a copy your slides on wireless security?
Awesome work, i am so happy about what i saw from the megaprimer for now, corious to watch the following videos. This is the first contact with tutorial videos, its such a high quality. If you did the same on the metasploit primer, soon i become be a pro :)

you did an Excellent job..
hehehe! You really understand how n00b like me can understand .. :)
Bundle of thanks..
.. All your Wireless tutorial series are very nicely explained ..I simply like each and every concept the way you explain.. Asusual, this tutorial was also very interesting as well but little lengthier and bit difficult as compared to the videos you made prior to this due to new terms that came in.. Nevertheless.. I'm a big fan of yours and,,,, Excellent work , Vivek sir...
With Regards,,, Wangdus :)
I'll have to watch this a few more times just to get things to sink in but it was a wonderful video. Thank you for making them.
Great information! Thanks.

Thank you so much, Vivek. You helped me lots.!! Thanks for putting in the effort to teach all of us in this whole wide world. Keep it up.!
Thanks man, great work !
Even if I do wireless since some years, I never had pure theoretical protocol training, therefore some of these parts are very useful. Will seek more in next videos...great stuff !
Great video! It was very well organized, and the information presented in an easy to understand way. I'm looking forward to watching the rest of this megaprimer's videos! Keep up the good work, you have a supporter here!
These videos are great! I was looking for a beginners guide to infosec topics, and all of these videos so far are fantastic. Thanks for making them.
What a great instructor you are! Thank you very much for your ability to explain things in such a way that it is easy to follow. Thanks again!
Good job!
Learned a lot ! Thanks Vivek !
Holy sh*t, All I have to say is where do I make my donation?! These videos are perfectly geared for intermediate/advanced knowledge of working systems. I've been out of high school for about 5 years now and taking programming classes again slowly, but watching you have so much enthusiasm in teaching the subject gets me extremely motivated. These videos have brought so many loose ends together over the years from classes. Thank you so much vivek for taking the time out of your day to make videos / and video series alike, I'm enjoyin the hell out of all of them. I also really enjoy the theoretical approach before hand, In my mind, you have to understand the theories about what your doing and concepts before you can actually manipulate and even begin to understand what you're doing. You've wrapped this up so well, well enough that I can wrap my head around this. Again, I can't express the gratitude I have for you, and what it took to make all of these videos. Looking forward to these for a very, very long time: ). Josh.
