Description: So you're interested in infosec and you want to figure out where to start, come listen to two guys that have been working on getting involved with the security community. What's worked for us and what hasn't. Also some tips for the mentors in the crowd. It's not just about certs!
Frank J. Hackett is a Senior Systems Engineer for an IT managed service provider in Northern VA. He has been involved with Joe McCray's "Security R00kies" program for the past year. Hackett has always tinkered with computers since first playing his Dad in a DOS version of Monopoly... and losing. When Hackett isn't building an Exchange server he's spends his time listening to ISDPodcast and taking long walks on the beach. Justin Brown is an Independent Consultant, has been in the Security R00kies for six months, and is a graduate of Baylor University. Justin is involved with the Security Awareness Training Framework Working Group, Hackers For Charity, and HackFormers. When Justin is not working on various projects, you'll find him manning a Hackers For Charity booth and drinking Arnold Palmer.
